Please make sure before this installation, you will need 2 identical hard disk with same space connected to the server. But the truth is, you don’t need to same hard disk with the same space amount, but as long as you partitioned the space equally then it would be good as well. But for beginner, it is better to get a hard disk that got the same space quantity, less percentage that you would get yourself confused.

Below are the steps on how to enable the Software RAID inside Windows Server 2003:

1) You may follow the initial windows setup here:

2) After the installation has finished, click on Start button and right-click on My Computer. Select Manage and click on it:

3) Next is to select Disk Management:

4) Right-click on your current hard disk that contained the Windows and select Convert To Dynamic Disk:

5) Select the hard disk that you want to convert. Make sure to select the 2nd hard disk you want to add as RAID as well to convert to Dynamic Disk and click the Ok button:

6) Click Convert button to proceed:

7) Please be advised that you can’t convert the hard disks back once to normal once you have converted to dynamic. Click the Yes button to proceed:

Click Yes again to proceed:

9) After the conversion has been done, the system will go for a reboot.

10) Once the reboot done, open back the Computer Management and this time you can see both hard disks are labeled as Dynamic. Right click on the Disk 0 (which contains the operating system) and select Add Mirror (which is similar to RAID1, whereas the Extend Volume option is similar to RAID0) :

11) Now select the 2nd hard disk that you want to add as its mirror (RAID1) and click the button Add:

12) Now the system will start synchronizing. Don’t worry about the error message appeared since it is only mentioning that the boot file has been copied. Just wait for a while till it finished:

13) Once the synchronization has been done, this will be the final outlook of your hard disks appearance:

You may follow the installation steps as below:

1) Boot using the CD. Press any key when asked to do so. Waits till it finished loading all the necessary driver until you see this screen. Press Enter to proceed

2) Go through the agreement, terms and conditions. Press F8 if you agree

3) If you have any previous Windows installed on the hard disk, this message will appear. Just press ESC to ignore it.

4) This is where you setup the hard disk partition for your hard disk. To delete the remaining partition, just press D. Just press Enter if you want to proceed with the installation on that fresh partition

5) In this screen, you may choose which File System you want for your Windows. I will recommend to choose the NTFS as it is faster and newer than FAT32. Then select whether you want a full format or just a quick format

6) The system now will perform the formatting and copying the system files into the hard disk. Let it loads for a while until you see the screen below. Press Next to proceed

7) Enter your username and the organization name

8 ) Enter your product key

9) This is where you are able to limit the access to your account at a time. This apply to Remote Desktop

10) Now you can put the password for the administrator account

11) Select your timezone for the server

12) Now the installation will proceed for at least an hour. After finished, it will goes for auto reboot.

13) Upon logging in, you may need to insert the CD2 to copy some additional files

14) After the copying, a screen will appear and make sure to click the Finish button or the network service won’t start

15) Generally the installation has finished. But here are some checklist that you might need to do

- finding and installing the network driver. Then assign the IP address

- copy the i386 folder that can be found in the CD1 and place it at C:\

- enable the Remote Desktop (My Computer > Properties > Remote)

More Steps to Reset Your Password after the jump

Do visit the website and download the bootable CD image. After burn it to the CD, insert it to your CD-ROM and make sure the BIOS is set to Boot to CD first. You may follow the steps as below to reset the password:

1) Just press Enter when it is asking for boot option

2) The next screen will show the available windows boot inside your computer. By default 1 is chosen. You may press Enter to proceed.

3) It will ask where is the location of the registry. It is already loaded to C:\Windows\system32\config\ by default, so just press Enter again

4) On the next screen, choose 1 to reset your password. By default 1 already been chosen, so you may press Enter

5) Next, just follow the default option which is 1 and press enter

6) Here it will list out all available users inside your Windows. You need to type which username you want to reset the password. It is Case-sensitive

7) On this screen, select 1 and press Enter to reset the account’s password.

Your password now has been reset to “blank”

9) You may press ! to quit edit the user.

10) Later on press q to quit and save the new config.

11) Press n to completely quit the system

12) Type Reboot and now you may login to your Windows with a blank password

IMPORTANT: If this restriction was enabled in your system without you doing anything or without your knowledge, then it’s highly likely that a Virus has blocked the usage of Task Manager in your system by enabling the DisableTaskMgr policy via the registry. • Navigate to the following branch:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System

• In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr
• Close Regedit.exe

Method 3: Using Group Policy Editor – for Windows XP Professional

• Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.
• Navigate to this branch:

User Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options / Remove Task Manager

• Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.
• Set the policy to Not Configured.
